Heritage Starlight Celebration

Last evening the school was represented at the Blackstone Valley Heritage Starlight Celebration at the Riverdale Mills in Northbridge. We had a small table where we had a few pieces of work from different mediums. We handed out a lot of brochures.

Artist of the Valley

Come out and visit us at our booth at the Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce " Artist of the Valley" 2010 Heritage Starlight Celebration. We will have brochures describing what we have to offer and some samples of work by some of our faculty. Below is more information about the chamber and the Heritage festival.

The 2010 Blackstone Valley Heritage Starlight Celebration will be held Friday October 22, 2010 at Riverdale Mills in Northbridge, MA. This is one of the premier events and will feature a "Taste of the Valley" and "Artists of the Valley" as well as being held in a converted historic mill in Northbridge, MA.

BBQ and Blacksmithing Demonstration

We are really excited to have Dick Sargent, the department head of the blacksmiths studio at Peters Valley Craft Center in Layton, NJ visit us and host a wonderful demonstration and workshop.

Please join us on Sunday November 7th at 10 AM as Dick will demonstrate how to build a mini forge out of a common household mailbox.

Celebrate the hand made by spending a fantastic Autumn day outdoors learning how to construct your own forge at home. Dick will provide you with the knowledge and a materials list to build a mini forge perfect for making tools such as skews, gouges and small carving and sculpting tools. We'll be firing up the grill as well as serving plenty of coffee and cider. Dick has been a professional full time blacksmith for over forty years so bring your questions and curiosity and join us on Sunday, November 7th for what is sure too be a great day of blacksmithing.

Demonstration Location: 7 Depot St Graton, MA Off of Rte 122

All proceeds of this demonstration go to the development of curriculum and facilities.

Stained Glass

Introduction to stained glass: This is a great class to learn the language of stained glass. Through the making of objects such as sun catchers and other window adornments you'll learn the tools and techniques involved in stained glass making.

Jewelry:

Bangles, Rings and things.

This is a great class for the beginner jeweler to learn the tools and techniques used to create beautiful rings and bangles in sterling silver.

During this class students will learn the tools and techniques to make several forms of bangles. Soldering, forming, texturing, and finishing techniques will be covered. By the end of this course students will have the knowledge and skills to create bangles, rings and things.

Skill level: Beginner/Intermediate.

Learn how to create a substaintial looking piece of sterling silver jewelry without the weight and mass.

During this class students will learn the tools and techniques to make several forms of hollow form jewelry, from pendants to rings. Learn new techniques such as soldering , texturing and finishing

Do you have a set of old dishes you inherited and one plate is cracked or broken. Why not turn it into a piece of stylish heirloom jewelry. In this workshops students will learn techniques such as bezel setting, formig, soldering, texturing and finishing.

Woodworking:

Build a Wooden Hand Plane.

A great class for the beginner. Learn how to build a nd use a Krenov style hand plane. There is nothing more romantic than building and using your own woodworking hand tools.

No jointer, No planer, No problem':

Learn how to build a shaker style side table with off the shelf lumber. You don't need all of the bells and whistles to create fine furniture.

Cigar Box Guitar:

Learn how to build this beautiful, creative three string instrument using a classic cigar box. Visit you tube and search " stevebutlersgarage" to see a short clip of me building a playing one. All of the music in the video was played on a cigar box guitar.
